Forage Oakland Anthology
Call for Submissions

Forage Oakland is a neighborhood backyard barter network by which anyone living in North Oakland or South Berkeley, California, USA can join the project and barter their surplus backyard bounty (of which there is much in this neighborhood). Inter-seasonal exchanges can be made, for example brown turkey figs in the autumn for hachiya persimmons in the dead of winter. Santa Rosa plums can be bartered for Persian mulberries. In this fashion, a new urban geography is created and new associations are formed as the seasons come and go.

In honor of Forage Oakland's One Year Anniversary, I'd like to assemble to collection of stories by communities the world over, but that focus on Forage Oakland's universal themes of imagining a new community; neighborhood self-reliance; bartering as a viable and sustainable economy; harvesting surplus fruit; mapping the edible city; and meeting the neighbors. If you've been involved in another community project that addresses one of the aforementioned themes, please send a piece to be included in the anthology. The anthology will include print media as well as photography, sketches, videos, audio recordings, haiku, and anything else you might imagine. I will actualize this anthology during a five month residency at Unidee, Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, Italy.

A multi-media web based exhibit will be curated for the inauguration of www.forageoakland.org.
In addition a printed anthology will be released.
